2023 Student Competition Winners

The Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA) is pleased to announce the results of our 2023 Student Map Competitions and the winner of the Best Student Presentation at our annual conference, Carto 2023, held jointly this year with the Association of Map Libraries and Archives (ACMLA).
CARTO 2023The Best Student Presentation award at Carto 2023 went to Ayomide Fatogun, University of Winnipeg for his presentation entitled “A spatial analysis of Moose distributions in Manitoba”. Nick Field, University of Toronto, was given an Honourable Mention for this presentation entitled “Alternative Historical GIS Approaches to Sir Aurel Stein’s 1918-1922 Maps of Northwestern China”.

2023 Student Competition Winners

President’s Prizes for thematic map design have been awarded to:
  • College / CEGEP category: Hannah Genosko, Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS), “Food Deserts in urban Halifax / Dartmouth
  • Hannah Genosko - Nova Scotia Food Deserts

  • University category: Sigao Li, Metropolitan Toronto University, “Hotspot Policing for the City of Toronto
  • Sigao Li - Hotspot Policing for the City of Toronto

    No entries were received for the Carto-Québec Prize this year for maps produced in French.
    No award was granted in the web map competition.
    Thank you to everyone who submitted a map to the competition or presented their work at Carto 2023!
